Theory or Practice?

13 Apr

Ok … so you have 20 minutes to give a presentation on new hardware that is being introduced at work. Do you:

A) Talk about the theory behind the hardware, why it was introduced, what it does etc … ?

B) Run a practical session where learners can get hands-on with the hardware?

C) Do both in 20 minutes – 10mins theory and 10mins hands on.

For me, the answer is B. For some, it is A. And for others, it is C.

But what do you think offers the best learning experience? Does the answer depend on who the learners are? Does learning retention also become a factor in your choice?
